Pharmacy Week

Since 1949, the Barbados Pharmaceutical Society has hosted Pharmacy Week as a means of focusing national public attention on the benefits of pharmacy to the island, highlighting the contribution of pharmacists to the community and bringing the pharmacy community together through social and professional activities.

Pharmacy Week offers an opportunity to reflect and re-focus on the various and varying aspects of the profession. It provides a platform for pharmacists and the wider community to interact more effectively. It also assists in creating an environment conducive to better dialogue between the pharmacists and the community, therefore enabling the exchange of information as it relates to the delivery of quality patient care

Pharmacy Week 2000 was celebrated from June 11-17, under the theme "Pharmacists and Patients in Harmony for Better Health Care". The theme signaled a call to arms as pharmacists committed themselves to a renewed focus on working with their customers to achieve effective patient care for all. New public information programs were launched, including the highly successful "Message From Your Pharmacist", which appears weekly in the print media to focus public attention on areas of concern to pharmacists and the wider health care community. To the enthusiastic response of its members, the BPS introduced Pharmacy Continuing Education 2000, underscoring its commitment to empowering its members to meet the challenges of pharmacy and health care delivery in a new, more technologically advanced era.

Pharmacy Week 2001 is expected to follow on this resounding success as initiatives taken in 2000 begin to bear fruit. A number of social, educational and other activities have been planned to mark the week of celebration and all are invited to participate.
